Teenagers and powerful sports cars are often a very bad mix and in New Jersey last week, this was demonstrated when a 17-year-old managed to crash his parents’ C5-generation Chevrolet Corvette. He didn’t just crash it either; he destroyed it.
The accident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on March 11 shortly after the 17-year-old borrowed the Corvette from his parents and went on a joyride.

The South Brunswick Township Police Department notes that the unnamed teen driver was going “too fast” on Georges Rd when he lost control of the potent sports car and slammed into the front of Pierre’s of South Brunswick, a popular deli. Fortunately, the young driver wasn’t injured in the crash which is quite remarkable given how much damage was done.
Images shared on Twitter of the totaled Corvette reveal that much of the damage was sustained to the driver’s side of the sports car. The outer door skin has been torn off and the rear-quarter panel has been completely destroyed. The driver’s side rear wheel has also been badly dented in the crash and we can see that the decklid has also been pushed out of position.

While the front of the Corvette is not shown in these images, it’s safe to assume that both it, as well as the three other wheels and tires, were also damaged as the car drove over a concrete curb. This likely also damaged important suspension components.
Local police report that the young driver was issued with a summons after the crash. We’re sure his parents also weren’t very happy after their son destroyed their sports car.
