Most road trips seem to have one common factor: a relatively large, spacious vehicle with a good record of reliability. One man from New Jersey decided to buck that trend. He piled all he needed for a multi-month road trip into his Ferrari California T and then drove 12,843 miles including stops in Tijuana, Mexico, Pebble Beach, California, and Vancouver, Canada.
Will LaRiccia says that he’s “been very fortunate to have enjoyed a lot of amazing cars” and that with each one he does his best to enjoy it like there’s no tomorrow. That desire is what spurred him on to take his Ferrari on a trip that spanned three countries. This wasn’t a totally bare-bones mission though. LaRiccia brought everything he might need for a trip that took more than two months.
Inside of the supercar, he had a carry-on suitcase, two backpacks, a camera bag, camping gear, and of course, a set of golf clubs. He says that when he wasn’t driving, he was spending his time either working remotely or engaging in some of his hobbies including hiking, camping, and golf. That’s right, he camped out with his Ferrari in tow too.

In his time behind the wheel, he was pulled over five different times and managed to only get a ticket once. He says that driving around the middle of nowhere with New Jersey plates is suspicious to some. Of course, there were a few times that he got to let the prancing horse run free and his top speed over the course of the trip was 185 mph (297 km/h). The entire drive was chronicled on his Instagram page.
A Few Stats:
Top Speed: 185 MPH (297 km/h)
MPG Avg: 20 mpg (11.8 l/100km)
MPG Best: 31 (7.7 l/100km)
Miles Driven: 12,843 mi (20,668 km)
Amazingly, he actually ended up with an average of 20 miles per gallon. Over the course of the 12,843 miles, the Ferrari never had a mechanical issue. In the midst of the journey he had it serviced in Seattle just to be safe though. Breaking down wasn’t a huge fear for LaRiccia unless he was in the middle of nowhere.
“I was terrified the entire time from Alaska down to Salt Lake City. Barely any cell service compounded that.” We’re just glad that concern didn’t stop him from showing everybody that even supercars can be excellent road trip companions.
Thanks To Will LaRiccia for the photos!
