Polestar will debut its first coupe-styled crossover at the Shanghai auto show this month.

In Europe, the Polestar 4 premium midsize crossover will join a segment led by the Tesla Model Y. Last year the Audi E-tron, Q4 E-tron and BMW iX3 were also among the segment’s top 10-sellers, according to figures from market researcher Dataforce.

The Porsche Macan-sized model is a “four-door GT but with a little bit elevated position,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath told Automotive News last week.

The Polestar 4 will share the stage in China with the Polestar 3, which is a premium large SUV that will compete again EV such as the BMW iX and its battery-powered sibling from Volvo, the EX90.

Along with being smaller than the Polestar 3, Ingenlath said the Polestar 4 would cost less.

“A car from $60,000 reaches a completely different target audience than a car in the $80,000 range,” Ingenath said.

In Germany the Polestar 3’s starting price is 88,600 euros (about $96,800) while in the U.S. it starts at $85,300 including shipping.

Polestar has not revealed the official starting price for the Polestar 4, which will be its fastest production model to date, the company said without providing a figure.

Also in the release Polestar said the new model “marries the aerodynamics of a coupe with the space of an SUV.”
