Renault veteran Cambolive will lead brand’s move to larger cars

Fabrice Cambolive has been promoted to CEO of the Renault brand, taking over from Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, who had held both titles since July 2020.

Cambolive will start in his new post on Feb. 1, moving up from his role as Renault brand’s chief operating officer. He will report to de Meo.

Cambolive, 54, joined Renault Group in 1992 and held international sales positions in Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany and Romania. In 2011 he was named vice president, sales and marketing, for Russia and Eurasia. He was appointed CEO of Renault Brazil in 2015.

Cambolive was promoted to head of the Africa/Middle East/India/Pacific region in 2017. He became head of sales and operations for the Renault brand in 2021 and in May 2022 started in his current position as chief operating officer.

Under de Meo, Renault brand is shifting its emphasis from high-volume but lower-margin small cars such as the Clio to the compact and midsize segments, with key new models including the Austral compact SUV and coming Espace midsize SUV. Cambolive will be crucial to that transition, de Meo said in a release on Wednesday.

“His commitment, his international experience and his in-depth knowledge of the group will enable him to continue to ensure the brand’s progress in high-value segments,” he said of Cambolive.
