If you’re like us, you may have dreamed about what it would be like to drive a single-seater, open-wheeled race car on the street. Well, one mystery driver in the Czech Republic has done just that, driving a legitimate GP2 racer with a Ferrari-themed livery on a public highway.

Footage of the driver’s antics that were shot by passengers of other vehicles were shared online by the Czech website idnez.cz and by Twitter user MigueluVE. The GP2 car is a Dallara GP2/08 and obviously, it isn’t road legal. Evidently, that didn’t stop the owner of the car from putting on their racing suit, sliding on a helmet, and jumping behind the wheel of the car for a drive.

Road & Track reports that this isn’t the first time that the owner of the car has been spotted driving it on public roads. In fact, this is apparently something that he has been doing since as early as 2019 which appears to be the first time the car was seen on the streets of the Czech Republic. Back then, police asked the public to help track down the driver but it doesn’t appear as though they were ever identified.

Dallara built the GP2/08 between 2008 and 2010. It is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated Renault V8 that sounds very similar to a Formula 1 engine. The car is good for a touch over 600 hp and coupled to the V8 is a Hewland six-speed sequential semi-automatic transmission that sends its power to the rear wheels. That’s more than enough for a vehicle that weighs only 688 kg (1,517 pounds).
